Hospice Patients Alliance is opposed to "SOPA," the "Stop Online Piracy Act" currently working its way
through the U.S. Congress. The current bills contain language that allows the federal government to shut down websites!
We agree with the statement:
"Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance. "It's very important that all Internet stakeholders work
together on this." However, the entire internet community has many concerns about these proposed bills and wish to improve the bills by
proposing several changes, most importantly to assure protections to free speech.
Hospice Patients Alliance has been on the web for over 12 years and is committed to the idea of First Amendment Rights and believes 100 percent that freedom of speech could very realistically be obstructed by giving the government power to shut down websites (like ours) just on the say-so of some individual government bureaucrat. The internet must remain unfiltered and uncensored by the government!
Citizens' rights can only be assured when freedom of speech is assured. The first step to a totalitarian regime is the obliteration of free speech. Censoring the truth is the action of a totalitarian government. Keep America free! Stop the "Stop Online Piracy Act," and make sure it is modified to protect citizens' rights to free speech.
